As Marietta (Hurley) sings her devotion to her lover, he begins to undress her as they
prepare for copulation. Honestly, I really don't have any idea what is going on and why
they are doing it...probably because I don't understand what they are singing. But
that's the whole point: to use the visual imagery as interpretation for the aria. The scene
lies in shadow much of the time, so Elizabeth is nude only for a few seconds, and in dark
conditions, but you still get to see the youthful beauty she exhibits.
